Tall Tales Audio - Review
This book review is a little different from most.
It's for a set of storytelling audio books for children called
Tall Tales Audio. There are currently six different CDs available,
each with three stories about a particular character. Each has
its own distinct personality. All are quite a bit of fun.
The founder of Tall Tales Audio is the creator
of Nolo Press, known for its legal books. Now that he has turned
his attention to children, he is using the give to get philosophy.
Tall Tales has six stories online that you can download and listen
to at your leisure. Each is one of three stories available with
that set of characters. These include:
- Sheriff Daisy & Deputy Bud
- Clem the Detective Dog
- Rainbow of the Sioux
- Ralphie the Gopher
- Tibbodnock Stories
- The Monotonia Chronicles
The company is sure enough of their storytelling
abilities that they think you and your kids will fork out your
hard earned cash for each of the CDs with the other two stories
on it, and quite frankly, we think they may be right. Our only
crticisms are the price point on their story CDs, which seem
a little steep at $12.95, and the fact that there aren't any
discount collections that we could find that would allow us to
purchase the full set of stories at a discount (Note
from Tall Tales Audio: Shipping is FREE for purchases of 6 or
more CDs).
One of the features we appreciate a lot is the
emphasis on family storytelling. Their website has tips
for parents who are interested in creating their own stories.
Each CD also has a secret code, which gives kids the start of
a fourth story that they are encouraged to finish with their
own imagination. Here is
the one for The Monotonia Chronicles. Marvelous for family
night! Have everyone write their own rendition and read them
all out loud, or have the entire family collaborate on one version
that becomes your family project.
We urge you to go listen
to the stories that are available on their website. You
and your children can listen to six fun, very different stories,
and then decide whether you want to pay for the additional
installments.
